Augmented reality arthroscopy

BioOptico's augmented reality algorithms are based on enhancing important diagnostic features in video signals based on tissue optical properties. One example from our arthroscopy products can be seen below. Cartilage and subchondral bone have completely different optical properties and therefore cartilage thickness maps can be created where worn or damaged cartilage regions are enhanced. Visualization is made according to the ICRS grading scheme for cartilage lesions, as a colour overlay in the live video during arthroscopy or offline. The resulting augmented reality images/video can be used to assist in diagnosis and treatment selection, to communicate with patients and insurance companies and for automatic surgery documentation. BioOptico has patents pending on this technology.
